Jackie Clarke and Callie Blood are city gals with country hearts. Coming from entirely different musical backgrounds, they meet enthusiastically where melody embraces a heartfelt delivery in a place sometimes called Alternative Country. Jackie and Callie combine their myriad musical experiences to produce a true vocal treat, taking inspiration from international artists like Emmy-Lou Harris, Lucinda Williams and Johnny Cash, but exploring a repertoire of predominantly New Zealand compositions from composers like Wayne Mason, Dave Dobbyn and Greg Johnson. Recently, they’ve added a string of original compositions by Callie and Wayne Bell bringing the whole thing even closer to home. The line-up is breathtakingly simple - two great voices in harmony supported by three of NZ’s finest instrumentalists; Rob Galley on guitar, Wayne Bell on guitar/ snare drum and Mark Hughes on bass. The Darlings are currently recording their debut album ‘The Cicada Sessions’ with producer Steve Garden. Release expected late 2006.
